11月4日早上8时，位于400号高速公路和卢瑟福路（Rutherford Rd）交界处，毗邻“加拿大奇妙乐园”（Canada’s Wonderland）的大型购物商场“旺妙斯”(Vaughan Mills)正式开张，这座占地120万平方英尺，为加拿大14年来兴建的第一个大型的地域性室内购物中心以其豪华的装修，多样化的购物选择，以及极优惠的价格吸引了大量的顾客。

尽管开张首日购物中心将营业时间提早到8时，但不少人早晨5时半就在场外排队。中午时分，人潮涌动，顾客更高达2万3千人。而随后而来的周末，连续两天，各方顾客纷至沓来。在多伦多其他几个大商场，星星生活记者发现人流比平时明显减少。在士嘉堡，一大型商场的主管承认，随着旺妙斯的开张，在经营上他们承受着一定的压力，因为旺妙斯内有不少名店走的是厂家直销路线，在价格上占有相当的优势。
