Toronto council has approved a city-wide traffic-calming policy that will allow speed bumps to be installed in parts of the city, such as Scarborough or Etobicoke, where they are not now allowed.
Under the policy, traffic-calming measures such as speed bumps, raised medians and chicanes (extended curbs) will be installed on streets that meet criteria such as excessive speeding, as measured by a city survey, and only after a vote of approval by local households.
