New Skills Vocational School at Midland Campus of Bond International College is offering Personal Support Worker program. It provides personal care and support for clients living in the community and long term care facilities.

PSWs Are Important for Community Setting
In the community setting, Personal Support Workers (PSWs) may provide temporary assistance to clients rehabilitating from accidents or illness and facilitate independent living for elderly and physically or mentally challenged individuals, enabling them to remain in their own homes.

The move towards providing care in a community setting and more varied client care requires a highly skilled worker able to respond to the changing demands for service.

The Personal Support Worker Diploma Program at New Skills Vocational School is a single training program that consolidates and replaces existing Health Care Aide, Home Support Worker Levels I and II and Personal Care Attendant training programs.

Employment Opportunities
The demand for PSWs is increasing on a daily basis. Graduates of N.S.V.S are employed in Nursing Homes, Retirement Homes, Long Term Care Facilities, Group Homes, Convalescent Homes, Hospitals, Hospices, Home Care Agencies and Community Agencies. Ontario Certified Personal Support Workers are eligible to work in Ontario and other provinces.

Due to the decreasing number of hospitals beds, the emphasis today is on enabling people to receive care within their own homes. This has resulted in an increased demand for highly skilled health care workers capable of working in both a community and a facility environment. Whether training health care workers to address shortages within the community, or to increase general employment opportunities, programs can be tailored to meet local objectives.

In-Service Training
Rapid changes in the health care industry require constant adaptation through in-service training programs. N.S.V.S. specialized in flexible, tailored training programs such as the Personal Attendant/Personal Support Worker Program to fit each facility’s and agency’s specific needs.

Program Locations
Programs are currently offered in Belleville, Guelph, London, Toronto, Peterborough, St. Catharines and Windsor.
