（星星生活记者捷克佳摄影报导）5月2日是农历四月初八佛诞节，加拿大湛山精舍近日举办多项活动庆贺释迦摩尼的生日，除数千人齐聚湛山精舍参加浴佛仪式之外，还分别于5月1日、2日两晚假红宝石大酒楼举办两场盛大的“养生素宴贺佛诞”晚宴庆贺佛诞日，共吸引超过1500多名嘉宾及信众的参加。

加拿大佛教会会长、湛山精舍住持达义法师表示，素宴的成功举办得到了大多伦多地区各个佛教团体和四众弟子的大力支持，如佛光山佛光会、正觉寺、慈济等等，此外，参加素宴的团体还有来自中国大陆、台湾、香港、斯里兰卡、缅甸、越南等背景的佛教团体。

素宴晚会的主要内容包括浴佛庆典、开示演讲、公众浴佛，还有功夫表演、佛教歌曲、京剧、二胡、舞蹈等，入场时还安排舞{节目。达义法师表示，这一方面就是要宣扬佛教的慈悲精神，以促进社会的和谐平安，一方面亦令各位参与者能一睹中华国粹文化。

佛诞日亦称浴佛节，达义法师强调说，浴佛虽然是一种形式，但它将会净化心灵，增长福慧。素食佳肴乃当今健康时尚，从这场素宴深受欢迎的情形来看，证明戒杀护生的慈悲精神、环保理念得到了本地很多人的认同。
